Dropped my scooter in this week for a service at Retrospective Scooters prior to commuting to work by Vespa from April; a good idea to get it given a good once over before getting back in the saddle. I‘m sure many VVC members are used to doing their own maintenance; I’m okay handling a camera but less so spanners - “A man’s got to know his limitations” as Dirty Harry liked to say..! Anyway I’ve been going to Retrospective since 2002 and like and trust them.
Always nice when visiting their Walthamstow workshops and showroom to see what they have in and on this occasion the following caught my eye..
Restored Spanish wideframe Vespa with Retrospective’s electric motor conversion - calm yourselves, this can be entirely converted back to its original 2-stroke motor. Wideframe electric motor conversions are now possible, as well as small and large frame Vespas..
Customer’s restored MK2 GS160 in for some TLC..
This ‘new’ 50S has come from Japan who I believe were the last, or one of the last, countries to supply smallframe Vespas when most others had ceased..
I’ve always quite liked these handlebar indicators..
I did mean ‘new’… only 14km or 8.7 miles on the clock !!

Almost done - nearly completed SS180 restoration by Retrospective Scooters and The London Scooter Bodyshop. Talking of which, look out for some interesting SS180 content coming up in the next issue of the VVC JOURNAL, due out end of April….
The last thing to pop up on my radar was this innocuous looking 150 Sprint - it is in fact one of Retrospective’s first electric motor large frame Vespas, fitted with some nicely thought through clever upgrades. Their first large frame Vespa electric conversion was applied to a blue PX. More to follow on this…
If like me you’re not very good at getting your hands dirty and you need to get your scooter checked over, then give Retrospective a call… quickly, as their queue is starting to get a little bit longer with more folk starting to ride again following the winter break.
