Beginning in 1949, Pierluigi Praturlon established himself as Italy's top film set photographer. He worked on many of the great movies that emerged from Rome’s Cinecittà film studios and photographed most of the actors who starred in them. Those immortal images we’ve all come to know so well of Anita Ekberg, Audrey Hepburn, Ursula Andress, John Wayne, Charlton Heston, Anthony Perkins, Gary Cooper, many on Vespas, were all taken by this man
As well as being the official set photographer on more than 400 films, including Ben Hur, Cleopatra, Thunderball and of course La Dolce Vita, Pierluigi Praturlon was Sophia Loren's personal photographer.
What a time and opportunity Praturlon had to be at the centre of, and photograph, the heyday and glamour of 1950s cinema, which coincided with the Vespa’s own glory days and its peak in popularity..
